Position Description
Opening for four AmeriCorps Members at Washington Initiative for Supported Employment (WISE), a statewide, non-profit organization providing technical assistance and training around best practices in employment for individuals with developmental disabilities.


Position Goals: 

  1. To increase involvement in community service and employment outcomes for
    individuals with developmental disabilities.
  2. To recruit community volunteers to provide service and mentoring to
    individuals with disabilities.
  3. To assist individuals with developmental disabilities in pursuing economic
    self sufficiency and building a happy community life.



Looking for potential members interested in working in a
team to provide individuals with developmental disabilities the opportunity to
become self sufficient and realize their goals of regular community employment
and economic self sufficiency. 
Candidates should believe in the full inclusion of individuals with
disabilities in the fabric of American life, be willing to provide community
service and encourage others to provide community service to meet these
goals.  No prior experience
necessary.  Attitude of civic
responsibility required.

Position Detail:  A fulltime, 10 and ½ month position beginning September 1st,
2006.  Position reports to a supervisor at Washington Initiative for Supported Employment.  This position pays a living stipend of approximately $850 per month as well as an Education Award of $4,725 which can be applied to accumulated student loans or future educational costs.  A car is required to perform many of theduties this position demands, and mileage will be reimbursed by WISE. 


Location:  one member each in Clark, Clallam, Whatcom and Yakima counties of Washington State.  Members will sit at County Government offices or local non-profit service organizations as satellite sites of Washington Initiative for Supported Employment.  Local county administrators of developmental disability programs or director of local non-profits will provide day to day coordination and on-site supervision of the position, working collaboratively with WISE.


Schedule:  Must be able to have some flexibility in work schedule.  At times there will be evening and weekend training, service projects or events.  The basic schedule will be Monday through Friday during the day. 


Job Components:

  • Coordinating
    local community service opportunities
  • Assisting
    individuals with developmental disabilities to participate in community
    service opportunities
  • Providing
    training materials and information to individuals with developmental
    disabilities, their families, teachers and/or local service providers.
  • Supporting economic self sufficiency
    and full community inclusion for person with developmental disabilities
    through service delivery, community education and mobilizing volunteers
