STAFF ACTIVITIES: WEEK OF OCTOBER 16, 2006
MONDAY, OCTOBER 16th
9:30 a.m. Linda will be attending a meeting of the Marine Cluster chairs at the EDC office.
12:00 Noon EDC staff will be attending the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce meeting. Incumbent Cathy McKeown and challenger Patty Rossand, candidates for Clallam County Auditor will be speaking.
1:00 p.m. The EDCs monthly Todd Ortloff Radio Show appearance will feature Pam Tietz, EDC Board Member and Director of the Housing Authority of Clallam County and Bill Huizinga, Sequim City Councilman and member of the Sequim Affordable Housing Committee. The topic of discussion will be affordable housing.
1:30 p.m. Linda will be speaking to the PUD Commissioners regarding the 2007 Contract at their regular weekly meeting.
6:00 p.m. The OMC Hospital Commission will present a report on their plan for primary care in Clallam County. This is a community meeting and the public is encouraged to attend.
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 17th
7:30 a.m. Linda will be attending the Access to Healthcare meeting.
7:30 a.m. Pam will be attending the PABA meeting at Joshua’s Restaurant.
9:00 a.m. Linda will be attending the NOPSC Board meeting at Lincoln Center.
10:00 a.m. The Clallam County Commissioners will be holding their regular meeting at the Courthouse.
6:00 p.m. The Port Angeles City Council will be meeting at City Hall.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 18th
ALL DAY: Linda will be attending the WEDA Legislative Meeting at Snoqualmie Pass.
7:30 a.m. West End Business Association meets in Forks.
10:00 a.m. Teri will be attending the Port Angeles LPA meeting.
12:00 Noon The Forks Chamber will be meeting at the Smokehouse Restaurant.
12:00 Noon The Clallam Bay/Sekiu Chamber will be meeting at the Community Center.
2:00 p.m. The Clallam netWorks Education Cluster will be meeting at the Lincoln Center.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 19th
ALL DAY: Linda will be attending a State WorkForce Development Council meeting in Seattle.
10:00 a.m. EDC Staff will be attending the EDC Board of Directors meeting at the Lincoln Center. NOTE: NEW LOCATION THIS MONTH!

Pam Macas and Teri Martin traveled to Lynnwood to participate in a one-day training session on the 12th of October, on Applying Lean Techniques for the Office presented by Washington Manufacturing Services. As a recipient of funding from WMS, the EDC attended so that we can better understand the services that are provided by WMS and impart those as needed to our clients.

L&I proposes 2% rate cut
Due to a strong economy, a good return on investment and L&I's ability to control its health care costs, the Department of Labor & Industries has proposed lowering workers' compensation rates by an average of 2% in 2007, according to Director Gary Weeks. A final decision on rates will be made in late November following four public hearings. The scheduled hearings are:
Thursday, October 19th in Yakima
Friday, October 20th in Spokane
Monday, October 23rd in Mount Vernon
Monday, November 6th in Tumwater.

Makah On-Line Museum
The Makah Cultural and Research Center and the University of Washington developed a new site titled Makah Cultural and Research Center Online Museum. The MCRC scanned and identified over 400 photo images, captured video, edited sound and provided the text for this site. Ruth Kirk wrote most of the text in the late 1970's.
The Olympic Peninsula Project Coordinator was Larry Burtness. Larry scanned photographs from the North Olympic Library, Clallam County Historical Society, Forks Timber museum and numerous private collections. The MCRC also facilitated over 363 Makah slides to be scanned from the Museum of History and Industry Collections by the University of Washington. J.W. Thompson took these slides circa 1955.
Project Staff include: Janine Bowechop, Project Director, Keely M. Parker, Project Manger, Jason Roberts, audio technician and Larry Burtness, University of WA Project Coordinator and video technician.
